Which report this is
This page summarizes the City of Yuma's Water Quality Report 2025, which covers 2025 test results (public water system AZ0414024). It's the newest report on the city's water quality report page and covers City of Yuma water customers.1,2 A few rows use the most recent required testing from earlier years, and those are labeled. If your bill comes from a different utility, check that utility's report.
The city says its water is Colorado River water delivered by canal. The Main Street plant uses conventional treatment on water from the Yuma Main Canal. The Agua Viva plant uses membrane ultrafiltration on water from the Gila B canal and can also treat well water for iron and manganese.1
Key numbers
| What | 2025 published figure | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Total hardness | Not published | The report has no hardness or TDS figure.1 |
| Sodium | 110 ppm (Main Street) / 110 ppm (Agua Viva) | No federal limit.1 |
| Disinfectant | Chlorine: highest running annual average 0.57 ppm (0.02–1.36). Chlorine dioxide: ND–0.2 ppm (Main Street), ND–1.2 ppm (Agua Viva) | Limits (MRDL) are 4 ppm for chlorine and 0.8 ppm for chlorine dioxide. The 1.2 ppm reading was a violation (see below). The report lists no chloramine.1 |
| Total trihalomethanes (TTHM) | Highest locational running annual average 79 ppb (single samples 37–96) | Limit 80 ppb, based on the running average. Some single samples were above 80, but no running average was.1 |
| Haloacetic acids (HAA5) | Highest locational running annual average 17 ppb (8.7–24.0) | Limit 60 ppb.1 |
| Chlorite (distribution) | Highest average 0.05 ppm (ND–0.08) | Chlorine dioxide byproduct. Limit 1 ppm.1 |
| Arsenic | 1.1 ppb (Main Street) / 1.7 ppb (Agua Viva) | Limit 10 ppb.1 |
| Nitrate (as N) | 0.42 ppm / 0.35 ppm | Limit 10 ppm.1 |
| Fluoride | 0.41 ppm / 0.38 ppm | Limit 4 ppm. The city adds fluoride.1 |
| Barium / selenium | 0.11 / 0.12 ppm; 2.7 / 2.6 ppb | Limits 2 ppm and 50 ppb.1 |
| Lead (tap sampling, 2024) | 90th percentile 1.1 ppb; ND–12 ppb; 0 of 100 sites above the action level | Action level 15 ppb. The city says no lead service lines have been identified.1 |
| Copper (tap sampling, 2024) | 90th percentile 0.073 ppm; ND–0.25 ppm; 0 of 100 sites above the action level | Action level 1.3 ppm.1 |
| PFAS (UCMR 5, 2023–2024) | Not detected | 1 |
| Lithium (UCMR 5, 2023–2024) | 62.8–75.5 ppb (Main Street, average 70.6); 68–150 ppb (Agua Viva, average 110) | No federal limit.1 |
| Total coliform / E. coli | Highest monthly 0.15% positive / 0 | Limit 5% of monthly samples for total coliform.1 |
ppm = parts per million (mg/L). ppb = parts per billion (µg/L). ND = not detected. Two numbers separated by a slash are Main Street / Agua Viva. All figures come from the report's tables; radioactivity results (2023 testing, below their limits) aren't shown here.1
What isn't published
The report doesn't list total hardness, calcium, magnesium or total dissolved solids, so we have no published hardness figure for Yuma city water.1 We won't guess one. For a reading at your tap, test it or ask a dealer to.
The 2025 chlorine dioxide violation
On June 7, 2025 a chlorine dioxide sample at the Agua Viva plant measured 1.2 ppm, above the 0.8 ppm limit. The city says it stopped using chlorine dioxide right away and the June 8 sample was non-detect. It was also cited because distribution-system samples were tested for chlorite rather than chlorine dioxide. The city issued a public notice and says corrective actions have been taken.1
MCAS Yuma, Yuma Proving Ground and other providers
Yuma ZIP codes don't line up with the City of Yuma's water service area. State service-area data shows Marine Corps Air Station Yuma (AZ0414082) and Yuma Proving Ground (AZ0414403) each run their own water system, and the Foothills is largely served by Foothills Water and Sewer.3
- MCAS Yuma: the base's 2025 report says its main source is Colorado River water by canal, blended as needed with water from a base well, and that it got City of Yuma water for 5 months in 2025 while its plant was repaired. It doesn't list hardness.4
- Yuma Proving Ground: the Howard Cantonment Area's 2025 report says its water comes from two wells and is treated by electrodialysis reversal. It lists total dissolved solids of 200–297 ppm (average 225) and doesn't list hardness.5

What this means for home treatment
- Scale: with no published hardness figure, test your tap before sizing or setting a softener. See how to set softener hardness and signs you need a softener.
- Taste and dissolved minerals: TDS reduction is a required claim for RO systems certified to NSF/ANSI 58. See RO system cost.6
- Chlorine taste: filters certified to NSF/ANSI 42 target chlorine taste and odor.7
- Sodium: tap water has 110 ppm. A salt-based softener adds more, so ask about RO for drinking water if that matters to you. See salt-free vs. salt softeners.
Frequently asked questions
How hard is Yuma, AZ water?
The City of Yuma's 2025 Water Quality Report doesn't list hardness or total dissolved solids, so there's no published hardness figure for city water. Test your own tap, or ask a dealer to, before you size or set a softener.
Where does Yuma's tap water come from?
The report says the city treats Colorado River water delivered by canal. The Main Street plant uses conventional treatment on water from the Yuma Main Canal. The Agua Viva plant uses membrane ultrafiltration on water from the Gila B canal, and can also treat well water to remove iron and manganese.
Does Yuma use chlorine or chloramine?
The 2025 report lists chlorine, with a highest running annual average of 0.57 ppm (single samples 0.02 to 1.36 ppm) against a limit of 4 ppm. The city also uses chlorine dioxide at the treatment plants. The report doesn't list chloramine.
Did Yuma's water have a violation in 2025?
Yes, one. On June 7, 2025 a chlorine dioxide sample at the Agua Viva plant measured 1.2 ppm, above the 0.8 ppm limit. The city says it stopped using chlorine dioxide right away and the next day's sample was non-detect. It was also cited because distribution-system samples were tested for chlorite instead of chlorine dioxide. The city says corrective actions have been taken.
How much sodium is in Yuma water?
The 2025 report lists sodium of 110 ppm at both the Main Street and Agua Viva plants. There is no federal limit for sodium.
Does this report cover MCAS Yuma or Yuma Proving Ground?
No. State service-area data shows Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and Yuma Proving Ground each run their own water system, and each publishes its own report. MCAS Yuma's 2025 report says the base got City of Yuma water for 5 months in 2025 while its plant was repaired. The Foothills and other nearby areas are served by other systems, so check the name on your water bill.
